Sindl Arahn

"Awake, arise, or be forever fallen!"

~Lucifer, Paradise Lost

"The ditches he found us in are where he should have left us." ~ Qhora Bajihri

Sindl is driven by an immense and energetic curiosity, an insatiable desire to follow every bizarre lead or unusual thought to its end, heedless of danger or common sense. He pairs this with a deep faith in the potential of others, and a devotion to teamwork - the result is that Sindl tends to make friends, and then encourage those friends to indulge in terrible ideas, all in the name of self-discovery.He is held back by an obliviousness and lack of empathy; the suffering of others doesn't always reach Sindl, if he's too distracted by a shiny idea to consider it. Consequences are for tomorrow; today we fight a dragon!Sindl will always be there to encourage you to be your worst self.

Appearance

Sindl was raised among the dunes of the Sagolii, and it still shows; his blond hair is sun-bleached, his skin tanned, and his body built with the sort of wild athleticism you'd expect from someone who spent a lot of time hauling their dumb ass up cliffs to escape the nest of sandworms they'd blundered into. He's always scraped up in some way or another - bruises, bandages, and black eyes are fairly common; Sindl gets into trouble and trouble doesn't always let him go easily. Some injuries are more permanent than others; one of his eyes is just a little darker green than the other, doesn't always focus as tightly - the remains of an old wound he wasn't able to shake off.

History

"Sindl Arahn" is a pseudonym; he was born a Tia under a name he'd prefer to forget, in a tribe he's left behind. The first place the name appears is on the rolls at Mealvaan's Gate, where he studied for several years before striking out on his own after graduation. He founded a free company, the Grim Echo, devoted to unearthing relics to turn into weapons against the Primals and the Garleans. For a time they enjoyed great success, aiding the Grand Companies in suppressing the Primal threat - but nothing lasts forever, and eventually the Grim went their separate ways. Sindl continues at the helm of what remains of the organization, still searching the world for the cursed and the profane in the hopes that they can be turned to useful ends.

Talents

Sindl is an arcanist and, thanks to his contact with Primals through the Grim's work, a summoner. He has a particular gift for unusual arcane constructs, and has a library of deeply weird purpose-built Carbuncles. Need an adorable magical creature that doubles as a toaster oven? Sindl can hook you up.He's always had an interest in gladiatorial combat - he ran the Grindstone tournament for a period, and is a regular at the Ruthless Reign - and while his skills are strictly amateur, it'd be a mistake to underestimate him in close combat.

OOC notes

  • Post style: I will usually mirror the local zeitgeist, but left to my own devices I'll tend to go 2-4 sentences and let the chat buffer tell me when it's time to stop typing.

  • Availability: My RP time is pretty restricted, so if you don't want to risk me having to suddenly bail out of a long scene, feel free to try and schedule something.

  • Favourites: I honestly love discovering characters' backgrounds. Yes, Sindl wants to know how you got that weird scar, and how kids treated you in school - he wants it all, please keep talking.

  • Mature RP: This character is in a (complicated) relationship and will gently turn down flirting. That said, I've no problems with scenes containing blood, sex, or horror, so don't worry about shocking or offending me. Have fun.

Hooks

  • The Grim Echo: Sindl's free company is a shadow of what it once was, but they are still involved in relic-hunting and they worked heavily with the Grand Companies in the past. So it's entirely possible you've heard the name, if you need help with a peculiar accursed sword or a pesky god.

  • Combat tournaments: Sindl loves these, usually as a participant. It's pretty easy to catch him at one (or invite him to your own).

  • The wilderness: Sindl hates staying still for very long, so it wouldn't be unusual to find him out in the woods, or scaling a cliff, or slowly sinking to his death in a bog. The usual.
